Yep, Burger Bill actually made one of his rare posts to csa2 several
months back when this topic was brought up. I remember him saying that
he had worked on AWGS to the point of getting it to compile (without
resorting to post-compilation patching to get it to run). I believe
this was the point at which he stopped working on it.
