Dead EpicClassicII modem

        Last night was quite the adventure for me.  Earlier in the day I
was trying to type on one computer and send email with the other.  That
is when I discovered I wasn't getting a dialtone on my term program --
though when I picked up the phone attached to that modem I did get one.
The modem would dial under ProTerm but no dialtone.  So it looks like my
Epic Classic II 2400 baud modem card has gone bad...

Any suggestions what could have gone wrong with it, and whether I can
fix it?  There seem to be 3 socketed chips to twiddle with.  None of the
dips or jumpers have been changed (I have the manual but it mentions
nothing about the dips & jumpers, THANKS EPIC), and you'd think a power
spike from the line would have hurt the Caller ID box before the modem
or the phone after it.  None of the other cards or the hard drive have
sustained any damage so it's not likely a power spike to the system.

        Making-do with a SSC and Hayes Smartmodem 2400 now...
