AE HD 3.5" question...

I'm wondering about the differences between the various high density
AE drives- I had an AEHD that could used 800k/1600k disks, which died.
Now I've got an AEHD+, which appears to use 800k/1440k disks _on a mac_.
On the GS, 800k disks work fine, but 1600k disks aren't recognized,
and trying to format as 1600k (using the old AEHD driver) results in
error... $4027 (?)

Is the hardware different? Is there a GS driver for the AEHD+? Can I
swap a ROM or something from the AEHD to the AEHD+ to make everything
happy?
