(lengthy and obviously experimental analysis snipped)
: So, if you want to use unpacked screen pics, you will need to put
: them on a ProDOS diskette. If, for some reason, your pics are saved as
: type TEXT files, you will need to change their file type in order for them
: to be recognized by PW Gold.
(theoretical speculation follows...)
I'll bet this is the problem you're running into. I've noticed that
genuine Macintosh files tend to all have file type $00 when you try to
access them with GS/OS, and at the same time, genuine GS/OS files seem to
have filetype "document" when you look at them on a Macintosh.
Apparently, the GS filetypes and the Mac filetypes are not stored the same
way even when both machines are using HFS.
Were I in your situation, I'd start by checking filetype; or experiment
and see if the program you are using has an "ignore filetype" feature
(some programs allow that using Option-Open) to cause the files to show up
in the "eligible files" list.
Q: to Rubywand: When you did your experimentation, were the unrecognized
HFS files actually stored using a GS, or were they GS-format files stored
on an HFS disk by a Macintosh? I wonder if MacOS' failure to properly set
the filetype for the GS could be causing PW to not recognize them...
