I have a couple ideas you can try:
1. Question - Does the Phasor have its own volume control, or must you use an
external amplifier to control volume?
If it has its own volume control, try this: Make the computer do something that
makes lots of "CPU noise". Turn the volume control up and down to see if the
volume level of the noise varies with it. If the noise level is not affected by
the volume control (or affected very little), then you can just leave the volume
at maximum, and use an external amplifier as your volume control. If it reduces
sound quality, turn the sound card's volume down just a little.
This is basically reducing the "signal-to-noise ratio" in your sound card.
2. Try making a "sandwich" by gluing 5"x7" notecards (or construction paper) to
both sides of the aluminum foil. Spread the glue evenly. Then get a hole punch,
and put a bunch of holes in the sandwich, until its surface area about 1/3 or 1/2
of its original surface area (forget the math, just eyeball it :) ). Wrap this
around your sound card (leave about 1/2" space between your sheild and the card).
Use small jumper leads (alligator clips at the ends) to connect the aluminum foil
to the chassis ground of the computer.
Also, try sheilding a 2 or 3 inch section of the card, rather than the whole
thing. You'll need trial and error to find the right size and where to put it on
the card.
