NEED advise for ROM-00 GS Upgrade

Hi,
After years of playing with an IIe, I recently
got a GS for free from a friendly professor at our University.
I already figured out that it's an ROM-00 GS and managed to get me some ROM-01
ROM chips. So far so good !
But it seems that the system 6.0.1 disk refuse to do the install,
because the GS is missing the newer VGC chip required to make it a full
ROM-01 machine.
Alltech has one for $19 (Part #: 344S0046-C). Is this the right part I need ?
Are there different versions out there of this chip ? I need some info here !

I also figured that, while I'm at it, I'll go for an accellerator and a RAM card
of some sort. Unluckely I've been out the Apple II world to long to have an idea
about what's out there for a II GS. (I never had a GS)
