I don't think so. I know of no software way to check for an older
VGC-- it required human intervention in looking at the part number on
the chip or looking at the (occasionally wrong) video output. Is the
ROM 01 chip installed, and does the computer identify itself as a ROM
01 *on bootup*? When you first turn it on, the computer'll say "Apple
IIgs" at the top of the screen, and either nothing or a ROM version at
the bottom. If it says nothing, you have a ROM 00.

The Zip GS and TWGS were the only accelerators for the Apple II
series. The TWGS is no longer being sold; EGO Systems (see section
10.2 of the FAQ) still sells Zip GSs.
