That is true. However Jobs insisted that the rainbow version, rather than
a simple two color verson, be put on every Apple II, despite the
added expense.

One interesting thing that Steve Jobs did contribute to the design of the
Apple II was the board layout. It was very common for printed circuit
board designs of the 70s to have wavy hand-drawn traces and chips put
wherever they fit. Steve Jobs is reported to have insisted that the
Apple II board have perfectly straight traces and have the chips lined
up in neat rows.
