Toby, no need to worry about hurt feelings. Nobody is perfect and I
just try to help out when I can. As you surmised, I never had an
ImageWriter II, hence the mistake in the cables. I always welcome
corrections if something I said is in error. :)
(I didn't come off as being snotty in the first reply, did I? I
thought I put a smily face down. Just trying to help. :)
In any case, thanks for pointing this out. In summary:
If one wishes to convert between a IIGS or IIc+ and a Mac, then
one would get a "Mac to ImageWriter II" cable, which has the same
plugs at either end (one for the IIGS or IIc+ and one for the Mac)
but can serve as a null-modem between these types of computers.
If one wishes to convert between a IIGS or IIc+ or a Mac and a
PC, then one would get an "Mac to ImageWriter I" cable, which has
a plug for these computers at one end and a DB-25 plug at the other
for the PC. Again, this cable can serve as a null modem.
If one wishes to convert between a //c and a PC, then one would
get a "//c to ImageWriter I" cable, which as a DIN connector for
the //c at one end and an DB-25 connector for the PC at the other.
However, at least one person, Jack Freiss (thanks!) could not get
this to work, so for the //c it might be necessary to get a "//c modem"
cable plus a null-modem adapter
Sorry about the mistake. I hope nobody actually went out and got
an ImageWriter II cable because of it.
