The Finder is corrupting memory, from a bad icon file, a bad
desktop file, or some other bug. Grand Unified Patch Program (GUPP), a
program I wrote, fixes one stupid bug on the Finder's part-- you may
wish to download it from your favorite A2 ftp site or by dropping by
http://www.visi.com/~nathan/a2/njmgssoft.html

If GUPP doesn't fix it, try disabling or moving elsewhere your icon
files until it's better, and also deleting all the hidden DESKTOP
files in the icons folder on each volume. These are more drastic than
installing a patcher program, so I'd do them after trying GUPP.
