No, I don't want to pretend that it doesn't exist. I know reality very well
and I am able to see colors between black and white which distinguishes me
from the most people on csa2. I believe that almost everyone has started
with pirated software when he was young and i'm wary of these wanna-be-
inquisitor types who run around shouting "Repent! I have just incinerated
all my pirated software! Repent your sins and burn all software pirates!"
On the other hand, I think you, Steve Mentzer think black and white, too.
I know very well that the number of pirated copies which is available is
a Big reason for John. Q. Computer buyers to buy a specific system.
PC manufacturers calculate with a certain loss through piracy and make
still profits with their software. If you have read my little essay
about mushrooms, then you should know that a healthy tree does not die
if he loses a little juice.
But things have changed. The World Wide Web allows a new form of
organized piracy, bigger than all what we have experienced before.
Furthermore, the Apple Management has kicked all of us IIgs users in
the rear and many software publishers have gone for the gold. These
who remain are very valuable for the IIgs community.
If you have a little grey stuff in your head, Steve Mentzer, imagine
a Vampire which has only a few humans left to provide him with blood.
Only a very *stupid* one would suck everything from them and then
see himself dying from starvation. If you >must< suck from them,
suck only a little until the population is stable again.
And for all the other folks on csa2: Remember that there are always two
needed for piracy - one who uploads and one who downloads! If you see
software which is still being sold, do not download it or delete it
after a short test. Buy good software and support the remaining
IIgs authors, they need us and we need them!
