It varies with the author's contract, but generally the copyright reverts
to the author when the company folds.  Rest assured that SOMEBODY holds it
still.

The problem found with Genie's Lost Classics projects was that the author
generally wasn't certain that he =did= hold the copyright and was generally
unwilling to grant permissions because of that.  And of course there's no
one else in a lot of cases.  We even had instances where the company
assured us that they =never= published Apple II software.
