Unless you have one of the very first ("revision A") Apple IIe motherboards,
installing the jumper doesn't normally ruin anything.  If you *do* have one
of those early motherboards, installing the jumper is very bad...I believe it
renders the entire computer inoperable until you remove the jumper.

If your system is fully equipped for DHR, there is one strange quirk that can
affect the original hires (and lores) display--if the 80-column display is
disabled, but the DHR switch is turned on, then you loose colors in ordinary
hires (and lores) mode.  You can only get four colors in this mode:  black,
green, purple, and white.

But this missing-color mode is *not* the machine's default mode...unless
you take special steps to enable it, ordinary hires and lores displays will
appear with all their colors intact.
