You have to have the jumper on the first extended 80 col cards to get DHR.
A revision A //e freaks if this jumper is on. Since that revision was quite
short lived (//e's came out in Jan '83 and mine from Aug '83 had rev B), the
great majority of 80 col cards have a bowtie connector which you break the
connection on if necessary, rather than a jumper. Then it's install and forget
for most people. My extended 80 col/RGB interface and RAMworks II cards both
have the connection permanently made. Only my original extended 80 col which
I sold many years ago had the jumper and the directions on using it. So if
the DHR enable connection hosed regular graphics, you would have heard a
million or so complaints by now.
I'm still trying to figure out what kind of video card you're talking about BTW
