Yes.  Any external modem will work with any computer; that's why I use
nothing but external modems.

The trick is that you need the right adapter.  for a 25 pin "PC" modem,
you need a Macintosh Mini-DIN8 to DB25.  Look in the "Macintosh Cables"
section of your favorite store.... "Macintosh SE to Hayes Modem".  that's
it.  Just plug it into the modem port and the modem and you're set.
(go for the high speed cable, no matter what.  When you upgrade to a 
9600 or 14.4 or 28.8 you'll appreciate having done so.)

Then, get your favorite term program, configure it for a IIgs modem
port, and you're online.
