It might be useful to consider having a copy of the program MacBinary 
for the IIGS.  It's a IIGS - GS/OS desktop app. program, written by Tony
'Hexman' Morales, that allow you to remove Mac binary headers from your 
archives, if that was your problem with them.  It's a 'MUST HAVE' 
freeware program for all IIGS owners and users - if you're using the Mac 
to download archives from the WWW and ftp sites - for your IIGS.

You can download the program from a multitude of ftp and WWW page sites.
It's even available from the Apple II library on AOL (yes it's still 
there), the Genie A2 library and I suggest you get it (the most current 
updated version). That's available directly from the author - via his 
web site.
