As does my "flagship //e" (except that it has a Meg80z).

I agree. Also, the legs on a Zip chip are rather thick in comparision with
regular IC pins so you are also weakening the IC socket on the motherboard.
You may get to the point where a regular 65c02 does not work.

As soon as I saw the legs on my Zip chip and read the warning in the manual
I inserted it into a sacrificial IC socket (just a regular one - not even
machine pin) to protect both the Zip chip and the motherboard. No problems
since then.

Some LIF/ZIF sockets would be ok - the big Green ones with a handle would
not fit well into the motherboard if I remember them correctly. In one of
my //e computers I have black LIF sockets with orange segements under the
chip that lock the legs into place. These fit into standard IC sockets
with no problems but are harder to insert ICs into than the ZIF sockets.
