Before you spend the money to get a print head check to see if a pin is
sticking out of the "nose" of the print head. If it is, try soaking the
head in isopropyl alcohol (get it at a drug store, 90% or better). Also,
use the alcohol to clean the nose of the print head. Sometimes ink
accumulates and causes problems. If there is no pin sticking out check
out the paper shield. It is held in place with two tiny screws.
Sometimes it gets damaged and a piece rubs the paper. A razor blade or
other sharp tool can usually fix the offending piece. Finally, or
actually first, does setting the paper thickness lever back a notch or
two help? The lever is inside the printer at the right side. Often it
is an easy fix to rubbing of the ribbon or other parts against the
paper.
