Before you spend the money to get a print head check to see if a pin is 
sticking out of the "nose" of the print head.  If it is, try soaking the 
head in isopropyl alcohol (get it at a drug store, 90% or better). Also, 
use the alcohol to clean the nose of the print head.  Sometimes ink 
accumulates and causes problems.  If there is no pin sticking out check 
out the paper shield.  It is held in place with two tiny screws.  
Sometimes it gets damaged and a piece rubs the paper.  A razor blade or 
other sharp tool can usually fix the offending piece.  Finally, or 
actually first, does setting the paper thickness lever back a notch or 
two help?  The lever is inside the printer at the right side.  Often it 
is an easy fix to rubbing of the ribbon or other parts against the 
paper.
