][+ locking up

i managed to buy an apple ][+ system which i found after buying it, manages to
lock up and gives me a syntax error when i enter any command. ive already reseated 
every chip on the board, and removed every interface card, all to no avail. this only 
happens after a few minutes which may be indicative of a heat problem, but dont 
have any others ideas. can anyone help?
