<<I have a IIe with 5.25" drives. Is it possible to replace one of
these with a 3.5" drive? (While keeping the same controller
card?).>>
No. You need a Universal Disk Controller (UDC) to use GS-type 3.5
drives. The card was made by Vtech and sold by Laser, AMR, and
others. OR, you need an Apple Unidisk and a Unidisk controller
card. Either system works well.
<<Also, do 3.5" drives work only with ProDOS? (cf DOS 3.3). And
where would you buy one?>>
There are patches and modified systems to make a 3.5 disk look
like two 400K floppies in DOS 3.3. However, I have found that
ProDOS is pretty darned nice for 3.5's once you get used to it.
Check comp.sys.apple2.marketplace. Or you could buy them from
Alltech.
