Re: Re. Sun-Apple

RUBYWAND enlightened us with:
: The PC, in fact, IS the only affordable home computer. All of this was
: pretty much decided back in 1989. When Apple failed to deliver either a
: major IIgs upgrade or a competively priced Mac, it left the field to the
: PC clone makers. Intel, Microsoft, and the clone makers set the standards.
: The massive user base forces software entertainment and productivity
: vendors to comply.
:
: Cheapo '486 machines have already squashed Mac. Today, the Pentiums
: are merely engaged in a mop-up operation.

Hmmm.... have been hearing this one for years and years. Win will
kill the MacOS. Win 3.11 will kill the MacOS. Keep going with
Windows 4 and 5 and 6 and ... all the way to Win 94... where did they
even go... in any case, today it is Win 95 that will kill the MacOS.
Will MS someday build and OS that will be competitive? If so, will
MacOS go away? Perhaps - but by then MS will be making the MacOS just
under a different name. Look at the evidence: First DOS... very
un-MacOS-like. Than Windows... a bit more MacOS-like, but far off the
mark. Now, finally, Win95, much more MacOS like, with better
multi-tasking but still with the DOS legacy of 8.3 file names, 255
paths, and clunky 'cause it's still so new.

Am I afraid for MacOS... not at all... it IS taking over the market.
Few MacOS fans care much about Apple or even the name MacOS... we care
about ease of use. Win 2000 will finally make it to Mac 84. Or
GS/OS.

Use GS/OS.
