Of course! Download IconEd 2.0 or DICEd v1.2 (I think that was
the newest version). These programs allow you to edit and create the old
style icons that are found in the *:Icons folder. The first one is
shareware (forget how much) and the other one became freeware (I think).

The only commercial application available that I can think of
(and recommend) is ICE v1.0 from (oh God, I hope I don't stirr up a
hornet's nest) EGO Systems. I recommend putting your personal feelings
aside on this one and purchase it from them for $10.00. It not only
edits and creates old style icons, but it also lets you edit the newer
resource icons used it System 6.0 & 6.01. It is a very powerful program
and I've used it to drasically change the look of my GS Finder. I drew a
custom icon for my Hard Drive and many other things.

: Dumb question #2: Is there a better comm program than Proterm for
: internetting, maybe something that lets you choose different colors and
: fonts while still supporting ZMODEM transfers and VT-100 emulation?

Two come to mind. Keep in mind that I haven't used either and
you might want to hear personal testimony from a user of the product
before buying it (and to answer your more specific questions about it).

	(1) ANSITerm v2.x. Has an interface similar to a PC Term program
(ProCOMM I think). It supports all the protocals of ProTERM and supports
ANSI color (I'm not sure about VT100, but I'm willing to bet it does).
Parkhaurst Micro Products sells it.

	(2) Spectrum v2.0. A GS/OS application that supports pretty much
the same features as ANSITerm. It uses the Apple interface so it's a
little more like ProTerm for the GS. Seven Hills Sells it.

: Dumb question #3: Is there a good shareware app for viewing both JPEG's
: and GIF's?

I don't know of any _good_ ones that are shareware, but ShowMe
v1.1.1 allows you to view GIFS (greyscale only). It is a Desk Accessory
& Finder Extra. It's kinda neat for setting up slideshows. Just select
the file(s) in the Finder and select Show Me! from the Extras menu. A
little slow though...

Commercial apps like Prism and SuperConvert are a much better option.

As for JPegs, I can only recommend JPeg Prerelease. It does a
good job of converting the JPeg to greyscale and displaying it on the
screen. It doesn't support saving or printing though. There are some
shell applications for doing this (might be better), but I don't know of any.

: Dumb question #4: Is there an app that will let you UUDECODE messages off
: the net?

	Can't help ya there.

: Thanks for all the help, it is truly appreciated!

: (A kinder and gentler) Fusion

BTW, I hope you have at least two megs of RAM with that Hard
Drive. That way you can add more goodies to your System. I hope
something I said helps (hopefully others will elaborate further).
Anyway, have fun with your GS!
