help: IIgs vs. modem!!
Howdy folks.
I have some IIgs questions.
Are there any tricks to configuring a IIgs to use a modem?
My friend (3000 miles away unfortunately) just received a IIgs computer.
He has the documentation, some system disks, a version of claris works and
a 1200 bps hayes compatible modem.
I don't know squat about a IIgs, but it is apparently a cross between a
mac and a apple II. The software seems very macos like.
Anyway, my friend cannot get the IIgs to talk with the modem. He has done
all the obvious things: set the baud rate/comm settings in the "control
panel" and the communications portion of the claris software. We tried
(me helping on the phone) both the printer and modem ports. I was trying
to get him to the point where he could type "at" in his claris comm.
program and get an "OK" back -- but the thing just doesn't seem to want to
talk to the modem. I am 99% sure he has the right cable, because the
package said mac/iigs modem cable.
Anyway... Anybody have any ideas?
If somebody was really generous they could help my buddy over the phone --
he would call you (assuming in the US). My friend is not a computer whiz,
but I have been able to help him with his old PC compatible over the
phone, but I have no idea what to tell him about this IIgs.
