Nope.

Cool.

I'm going to ASS-U-ME that you mean AppleWorks GS, AWGS was distributed
by Claris. ClarisWorks is a Macintrash program.

Anyway, get rid of it, it's a memory hog and unreliable with the latest
version of system software. The comm program sucks and only supports
Xmodem file transfers and as I recall, you are stuck with TTY emulation,

Hrmmmph... I think I'll ignore that insult.

Real GS comm programs bypass the control panel entirely, and access the
serial port directly.

Here's is what a real GS modem cable should look like:

The important connections for your friend, seeing as he's at 1200 bps,
are the TxD, RxD and GnD. Buy a cheap multimeter and verify the pinouts,
you pry should have one around the house anyway.

Finger my account, get the info on the modem disk I distribute, and send
me $2. That'll give you all the utils your friend really needs to get
started, and a real comm program (Zlink). If you friend still can't get
going, after he:

a) Verifies his cable pinout, at least the 3 lines mentioned above.
b) Gets Zlink, 'cause I'm not going to waste my time trying to
troubleshoot, using a program I don't even own anymore.

Then my phone number will be with the disk, and he can call me for help.

See above.
