there is no problem in doing so.  I have done this already several times
without any failures.  you just have to be careful when opening the case. 
The drive is attached to the upper cover and has to be removed together
with it.  To remove the drive from the upper cover, just slide it gently
forward and it will detach itself.
Re-assembly goes in the other direction of course.
