Yes, I'm at it again.
Ok, here's the scenario. I've got a //e with a 4MHz Zip Chip and an SMT
No-Slot-Clock, as well as various cards. I'd like to switch to the
Platinum //e but have encountered a couple of problems that Apple wasn't
able to resolve for me.
1) The Plat. //e uses a slightly different processor - the 65SC02 to be
exact. I do not know if replacing this with the Zip will cause any
problems in the machine. Does anyone have any idea? I'd hate to put
the Zip in there only to find it doesn't support all the functions
necessary.
2) The Plat. //e, instead of having both a CD & EF ROM chip, has one
chip called the CF ROM chip. The clock chip fits in the CD socket in
the regular //e, and if I put it in the CF ROM socket (the CD or CF ROM
chip is piggybacked to the clock chip) programs like ProTerm, GBBS and
ProSel still recognize it, however I am unable to use the SMT NSC Utils
to adjust the time/date on it. It says "Faulty/no clock found". Is
there any way I can use this chip clock in the Plat, or will I have to
find a card clock? I tried calling the number listed on the clock's box
for SMT, but it's not in service, and I don't know if SMT still exists.
HELP?
Also, Dave Empson over in New Zealand has informed me that the HD util
program by C. Peterson is copyrighted, and I'll need permission from him
or Chinook to distribute it. Does anyone know how I can get ahold of
Craig Peterson or other authorized person to get this nifty program
released into the public domain?
Give what you would like to receive,
Glenn
