The Unidisk (smart drive) can be made into a dumb drive (unplug its brain *:)
Back when I had a //e and a Unidisk, my son would 'borrow' my Unidisk to use
on his Mac.  I don't know exactly what he did but I do know he could not   
put the case back onto the 'dumb' unidisk.
