Re: GS Fax software and modem deal
Re: the comments about v.32bis modems...
I haven't had any problem with my Zoom 14.4 Faxmodem ('course, I don't have
the Fax software yet...)
The things you want to look for in a modem, if you're not in the boonies
where high-quality modems are essential due to poor lines...
What speeds does it support (some do not support intermediate or low-speed
connections - eg many do not support below 2400, and most don't support the
7200 baud fallback rate for 14.4)
What fax options does it support (what classes (I and II are all I know of),
and what groups (1, 2, 3, and, in high-end, 4)) and what protocols.
Watch specifically the fax options - lots of companies skimp on those, leaving
you with class-I only or leaving out a group or two, making your faxmodem
incompatible with some faxes.
That's all I have to say - there are some good modems out there for as little
as $89 (the MacWarehouse LineLink is good, although I've heard a complaint
about a new one not working and it being hard to get tech support..., and
I haven't had any problems with my Zoom except for that it got blown by a
power surge - they fixed it no charge.)
