HELP!!! I read the FAQ. but....

Ok... Here's my problem... I get all the file at my local account on internet,
but whenever I try to d/l them to my computer they always arive as text.  I
finaly got binscii to get here in other than text, but I need shrinkit to do
anything with it, and Shrinkit will not get here in anything but text.  I am
using Point to Point (by beagle bros.), I also have Appleworks GS. It has 
a communications package (realy weak), it gets the same results.  Is there 
some where I can physically get shrinkit, or something similar, so I can
decode them?  Or am I just doing something wrong.  I have read everything I
can get my hands on at ftp sites, ect. but nothing talks about my problem.
I know HOW to decode I just can't get it to the stage where I can decode it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
