There was: Applied Engineering (R.I.P.) had a device called the
RamKeeper, which worked with their RamFactor card to preserve its
contents over powerdown. I believe it was mains powered, or perhaps
that was just a charging circuit for the RamKeeper.
I know of at least one battery-backed ROM disk for the IIgs (OctoRam
ESP, which I have, but without any RAM or batteries in it!)
