Good comeback, Ian, but let me re-word it.
I have learned more from Brian Tao talking about the Internet on Genie's A2
than I have learned about the net in the past year by reading c.s.a2.
Until I posted a message a month or two back about www and lynx, I had
never heard anyone on c.s.a2 mention the web or web browsers. Why? It's
certainly the greatest and most wonderful thing I've ever used my modem
for. But, I got flamed for mentioning the SL-9 home page here on c.s.a2.
Instead, bandwidth is wasted by 8 year olds who come here and say the Apple
II is crap, and 25 people write long empassioned answers saying it's not.
Then we waste bandwidth on the pros and cons of piracy. Today's
topic...Karateka is uh-uh cool. Karateka is awful. No, Karateka is kewl.
Heck, we could be teaching each other about this wonderful world of the
Internet instead.
Rhetorical question...don't send e-mail to answer...but, how many people
are still using ftp when they should be using ncftp instead? I do not think
that the term ncftp has _ever_ once come up in c.s.a2. Is it in the FAQ?
No. So, lots of Apple II folks are still struggling with ftp.
I guess my point is that just as I am clueless about compiling unix source,
I'm sure there are many Apple II people reading c.s.a2 who are clueless to
other aspects of the net. I'm not trying to be the netiquette police, but I
sure wish we could learn more (and teach more) about the net from c.s.a2.
To me, it's almost sad that there are folks with a full net connection,
reading this, who have never heard of, or used, Mosaic or Lynx. I
know...after I posted about www, I got emails asking me what those things
are.
Oh well, all and all, I'd rather be here than on AOL <haha>.
