You can think of the "Programmer's Reference to System 6.0.1" as a
fourth volume of the toolbox reference, plus additional information for
using GS/OS under System 6, and documentation for writing Finder
Extensions.

To get a complete set of documentation, you need TB Ref volumes
1, 2 and 3, the GS/OS Reference, and the 6.0.1 Reference.

BTW, the GS/OS Reference is for "System 5 and later", not just System
5. It doesn't tell you which features were added in System 5 and are
missing from System 4.

System 6 added a couple of new GS/OS calls, quite a few new features
were added to existing calls, and there are new file system
translators. All of these are documented in the System 6 Programmer's
Reference (52 pages just for the GS/OS stuff). I haven't seen the
6.0.1 update yet, so I don't know how much more information is in
there.
