I also enjoy a number of alt groups, and I certainly wasn't trying to
cast aspersions on alt.anything. I guess I feel that there's a time and
place for everything; after all, without foul langauage, alt.tasteless.jokes
would die in a week.

I just personally feel that the use of foul language in comp.sys.apple2.*
serves as a deterrant to getting more people in here.

A few years ago, when I worked for BRCC, I tried for a long time to add
some R rated disks to the BRCC library. I was so insistent about it, that
we finally came right out and asked Scarlett subscribers how they'd feel
if we did that.

I'll be honest, and tell you I was literally stunned by the responses.
Something like 80% of those who responded were very adamant, and said
that they'd drop their BRCC membership if we added even one R rated disk.

That spoke volumes to me. BRCC is still alive and well. OTOH, the
Public Domain Exchange, a pd mail order place that had a zillion R and
X rated disks, are now out of business.

My entire point is that we should not put up any roadblocks in this
newsgroup that might prevent new people from taking part. And, I really
do think that obscenity in this newsgroup will cause many schools to
pull the plug on comp.sys.apple2.

My 2 cents...
