AppleWorks File Problem?

While using classic AWKS 3.0 something got into my GS and changed Slot 1
of the control panel from Printer Port to Your Card.  This, in turn,
disabled the computer's ability to communicate with my ImageWriter II
printer.
 
The date of the program file SEG.ER was also changed to the *current*
date.
 
After I reset the control panel Slot 1 to Printer Port and overwrote the
SEG.ER file from my AWKS master everything worked OK.

Every time I boot AWKS, the SEG.ER file gets updated to the current date
(but everything continues to work OK).  This leaves me with the same kind
of feeling as if I was using a cracked toilet seat - it works great but
you just never know when its going to play *gotcha!* with you.
 
(The same updating occurs when booting from a disk drive with a freshly
made copy of my master.  This indicates the problem does not lie with the
hard drive.)  (Also, SEG.ER is the only file that gets its date changed.)
 
Sure would appreciate any suggestions from the great minds out there on
how to put the shackles on this thing.
