Re: Apple ][+ or ][e ?

(original poster has an Apple ][?; how to find out what kind...)

The easiest way to find out is to power up the machine. As noted previously,
you will see one of the following screens (leave the disk out so you can see
the welcome screen...)
Apple ][+: "APPLE ][" centered on top line
Apple ][e: "Apple ][" centered on top line
Enhanced ][e: "Apple //e" centered on top line

Additionally, if you PEEK memory location -1101 (that's 64435, or $FBB3), you
will find a value of 06 in any ][e, ][c, or IIgs. I believe the value in a ][+
is 243, but don't quote me on that.

Another way to check is to pop open the top and look at the motherboard. If
the board has seven 50-pin card-edge slots at one end and a slightly larger
eighth slot adjacent to one side of the board, and a relatively small number of
chips (mostly 28-pin or larger), it's a ][e. The ][+ board has eight 50-pin
card-edge slots on one end, and a very large number of chips, mostly 16-pin
RAM's.

If that doesn't help, let me know, and I'll see what other identifying tricks I
can come up with!
