Re: Dead Harddrive?

#ok ive seen almost all of the recent posts on some dead
#harddrives...
#i have searched my harddrive up and down for a fuse... i didnt see
#one
#
#heres the harddrive i have
#
#MiniScribe (ya i know its old)
#Model B425SA
#HDA 06
#PCBA 03
#UNIQUE 07

The fuse on this drive that we are talking about for the SCSI
termanator power is located at the end of the SCSI connector on the
drive board. It looks like a small glass diode and has the letters F1
stenciled on the board besides it.

#When put on the card, and tried to access the drive, it shows EVERY
#id filled
#when this harddrive is connected.... it even shows every i'd even
#with no
#jumpers in place, or even with jumpers in place....

This behavior is not indicative of a fuse blown or lost termanator
power so I suspect your problem is different and perhaps more serious. I
have a dead version of one of these drives in front of me and my experience
with said drive was that it was pretty bad and was one reason the company
went belly up.

You may be ahead by getting a new bare drive and mounting it in
your case, thats what I did when mine croaked. A 270 meg Quantum is only
$259.
