Re: Apple and file transfers

To get a decoder to your //c, you can get the exec-able binscii that is
available at most ftp sites. Then you can use text capture to get it, exec
the little basic program that comes with it, and then download a real terminal
program in binscii'd form. Most apple II people don't use uucode since binscii
is the same size and has much better multiple part handling, including auto-
stripping news header (each part has it's own begin and end lines, whereas
uudecode will try and decode the headers from a newsgroup posting). Many sites
keep their files in binscii format (*.bsq/*.bsc) and a lot of others keep their
stuff it shrinkit archives (*.shk), which requires another program shkrinkit
which you can get in binscii'd form once that is on your computer. You might
want to try (if you have it) kermit to transfer the files instead of a straght
ascii capture, as ascii captures often get errors with long files. If it has
errors, try again, but get binscii, then shkrinkit, and then Zterm or some
other shareware comm program.
