IIgs Problems
Some strange things have started happening with my IIgs recently, and I
am wondering if it's just my machine or whether others are experiencing
the same problems.
Problem #1:
I installed a Zip GS 8/16 at the beginning of the year. The Zip card
itself appears to work just fine, but now, if for some reason I have to
turn the CPU off, wait the obligatory 15 seconds, and turn it back on
again, a strange thing happens. The computer seems to enter an endless
loop which is somewhat difficult to describe: an inverse space character
and an asterisk are printed to the bottom of the screen and the System
Bell sounds, about three times a second.
The only way to stop the loop is with option-command- control-reset,
after which the computer boots normally. Neither Control-Reset nor
Command-Control-Reset have any effect, however.
I have installed
- a CV Tech GS memory card with 2 megs on board and a 1 meg Apple RAM
card in the piggy back slot
- a CMS Apple II SCSI card
- a video overlay card (I don't use it - it came with the computer when
I bought it)
- a Zip GS 8/16
Could this be a power supply problem? I occasionally get an Error $0911
at first startup, which I believe is related to operating temperature,
but this looping problem only occurs when I turn the computer off and
turn it on again shortly after.
Problem #2:
I have recently installed both Kangaroo (a few weeks ago) and Twilight
II (a few days ago). Now, when the 6.0.1 Finder starts up, a duplicate
of the contents of the Apple Menu appears at random under one of the
other menu items, ie, View, Disk, Special, etc. It's not always under
the same menu, and appears to be fully functional. The true Apple Menu
is still there as well. After running an application and then returning
to the Finder the duplicate menu usually disappears.
I'd be very grateful to hear from any one else who has seen either of
these phenomena on their computers. Neither is fatal, but both are a bit
of a nuisance. If there are any solutions I'd be glad to hear of them.
