You will have to deal with all the different FTP servers ;-)

I had that on my to do list of IIgs internet applications (IN: The Mailbox, IN: The Newstand, IN: The Library). I wanted to write a disk driver and possibly an FST for accessing files on an FTP server so when editting your web page you could open the file on your FTP server, update it and then simply save it.

However, when discussing it with other developers at KFest (1999 I believe), a point I hadn't considered was brought up. How do you handle when a program asks you to open a file and then start reading from or writing to the file start at 10 MB in? It would be possible to do this when reading if you were to use the auto resume transfer feature of newer FTP servers to reposition to that point but not all FTP servers support that feature and I don't think it works for writing.

I have since figured it would be better to simply make it a FinderExtra that you could open a connection to an FTP server and it would give you a window in the Finder that you could then drag and drop files to or from. Not as nice as being able to load files from within applications but still pretty handy. Someday I'll get started on that project.
