I don't think you can do that. I'm not an expert but I don't think you can.
There -is- a chip called the 65802 that is pin compatible with the 65C02 and
will get the IIe to address more memory (or is it that simple?) or work in
16 bit mode? I can't remember - I just remember that it doesn't do both but
that you can pop it in instead of the 65C02.
