Spring/summer of '78. There may be a manufacturing date stamped
somewhere on the inside, though I haven't looked for one on my unit.
My early unit was pre-ordered in 1978 and has a serial # of over
10000. When they first came out, those units sold faster than they
could make them. Note that later units had a hardware change to the
analog board that improved read recovery. I've had trouble reading
some commercial disks with mine until I added a reversible version of
the same change to my analog controller.
