My explanation, of course is that I'm that much smarter. Some people
may say that it's just a result of using newer technology to address
a older problem.

First using 128K static memory reduced the chip count a lot. Putting
the glue logic into a single CPLD chip does the rest. Neither was
available in early 80s.

When not playing with Apple stuff I design hardware with a lot more
bits, megabytes  and megahertz on tiny boards with 6 routing layers.

For this board I wanted to use a cheap PCB (8/8 rules) and components
easy to hand-solder.
