I bought my MDIdeas SuperSonic stereo card 20 years ago,
in fact I still have the original box and manual (I can unfold it and scan it
if you'd like). I think it was the very first accessory I bought for my Apple
IIgs come to think of it! I have at least three of these in my collection now.
Not much to know about the card, other than the 3 possible
jumper settings: LN, HI, LO. The manual stated "LN" was for amplified speakers,
"HI" for non-amplified, and "LO" for head- phones. Personally I set my card to
"LN" (line-level) as it gave the least noise, the other settings picked up
stray background noise, such as the floppy drive accessing or mouse movements.
There were two add-ons for the card's expansion connector.
The SuperSonic Digitizer daughterboard (piggybacked at rear to create a
full-sized card) and the Digitizer Pro--the latter was a stand alone card
requiring another slot. I bought the daughterboard card option, which came with
it's own software but compatible with AudioZap and others.
It was a fair card, better quality than the AE SonicBlaster,
but I wasn't so fond of the digitizer option or the fact there was no rear
panel attachment for the 3.5mm audio plug (my Bose Roommate speakers' plug got
damaged pressing up inside the GS's case!). Years later I ended up replacing it
with an AE Audio Animator, which IMO is the best sound card for the IIgs
(FutureSound is probably just as good, though I've never found one myself).
