I might politely disagree. Virtual PC is carefully tailored to not cooperate with a lot of non-Microsoft environments. Almost any of the Linux-hosted solutions are better. VMware Player is a free download that does not discriminate against anything. There are plentiful appliance images available for free that present a variety of instant environments read to run inside it. I believe that it's actually on the default list of install choices for newer SuSE and Ubuntu distributions and therefore close to painless to bring up.

For even broader compatibility with oddball OSs, try Parallels Workstation 2.0. This will support OS/2, BeOS, Solaris x86 and (I believe) CP/M-86 to name a few.

If you are experimental there's also Qemu, a true emulator that presents x86 environments on any CPU architecture (with varying degress of efficiency, I'll grant)

My 0.02 on the subject, anyway.

Thanks, Steve, for the info.

I've only used it to install "sandbox" copies of Windows, so I was
just repeating what Virtual PC is "supposed" to do. ;-)

Of course, for the OP's needs, a sequestered Windows installation
plus CiderPress might be just the thing...
