Others have answered your question, but not quite directly.

You *can* connect the IIgs output to composite, with a simple RCA-to-
RCA cable.

However, that will only be tolerable for 40-column text and ordinary
hi-resolution graphics; 80 column text, double hi-res, or better, will
be blurry on a typical TV.

Also, the signal is not quite a valid NTSC video signal; there is some
chance that a modern display will not recognize it as valid video.
(For instance, a Dell 2007FP monitor's composite input will not, in my
experience).

Most people still using IIgs's these days are purists, and have
settled on higher-quality solutions.
