Re: C64/128 vs. Apple2?
This is definatly an age-old argument. However, I might be able to
throw an angle in there that most people hadn't thought about.
Back in the 1980's, I can remember in the 7th grade having a huge
argument with a student who had an Apple IIe. I had a Commodore
128. He would constantly make fun of me for sticking up for my
Commodore since he felt it was an inferior machine. It was a toy
compared to his "real" computer. However, I felt quite the opposite.
I had used Apples and I didn't like them. Everytime we got into the
argument, though, he would always stress RAM. He'd say, "My computer
has so much more RAM than yours." He was convinced that this made his
computer better. But I couldn't care less because I knew my computer
had so much better graphics and sound.
Now that I look back on it, I have far less emotion and more rational
comparison of both machines. I realize the Apple II is a much more
powerfull computer than the C64. However, it has very little
"personality" Just look at Apple BBS's of the time to see what I
mean. All plain ASCII, no color graphics. The users of one computer
were a totally different crowd from the other machine, with totally
different interests.
