The "slinky" card is a "normal" expansion card with up to 1MB (AFAIK).

This and other thoughts about the reason for the "Slinky" name may well be correct, but the starting point is that it was the internal development code name for the card.

And the "rationale" is as likely to be that the engineer working on
it really liked Slinkys (or had a girlfriend called "Slinky" ;-).

Apple is unusual in that lots of internal code names seem to get
public.  In most companies, no one outside ever learns the internal
names of projects (and in some cases, it would be quite embarrassing).
