G'day!
After having a quiet failure with the XT not being able to provide a usable
video signal I went back to the clone ][ living in the shed.
I pulled the 16k RAM expansion for a start. Then I went through and pulled
all 3 banks of RAM, checking what happened after each bank was removed.
Eventually it ended up with a white screen. I started replacing the chips
again and still have the white screen.
I removed a couple of hot RAMs in the process and reshuffled so the first
bank was fully populated.
Although now the previous graphical garbage is perceivable on the screen
for a fraction of a second on startup.
After trying a few reset cycles it flipped over to text mode. The screen now
fills with random combinations of 'A' 'E' and 'G'. Performing more resets
just rearranges the order of the 'A' E' 'G' combination. Maybe it's trying
to tell me the problem is "AGE".
There is also a quiet bit of noise coming from the speaker. This re-enforces
the idea that there is still a bad component in there somewhere.
Unfortunately I can't use the RAM from the RAM card in the board. The card
uses 8116 chips, whereas I need 4116 chips.
So, where do I go from here?
Tristan.
