Since the system would be cloned, at least they (I'm assuming the R&D) would have some control over the functional design.Perhaps it was simply for posterity and they wanted to be remembered in the history books.FWIW, much of that design still exists today.OTOH, it has been said that the original design of the PC is what hinders it's growth now.
I don't think that it's much of a hindrance anymore. Of course, you still have to boot the original DOS, but compatibility is an insignificant part of a PC's complexity these days.
