Sales are good, for the single person business. Nobody who produces vintage
style hardware or software is going to get rich. I never advertise in
magazines or anything else. I do go to the VCF shows when I can and help
support the shows with a giveaway board when I can.
At the last VCF I held a workshop class where people got to build their
replica in an informal class setting. That was more fun then I've had in a
long time.
I understand there are two different replicas but I don't believe the
market can support two. There just isn't enough interest. I can't stop
people from producing something like what I have already done. I did the
replica project originally back in 2002 and I published my work so people
didn't have to buy from me, they could build their own. I did this in the
spirit of Woz handing out schematics at the homebrew club when he designed
the Apple 1. If people choose to sell their own replicas that's fine but
it's flooding a thin market. As long as there is interest in the replica 1,
I'll continue to offer them. Plus, with Rich Dreher's CFFA1 card coming soon
and the cassette interface coming soon, expansion options are better than
ever.
Ha, maybe things will go south and I can spend time again designing hardware
for the Apple II. I've still got a few projects like my encoder ps/2
keyboard adapter to finish up.
